Alberta Canucklehead

So I'm just a girl in the world of the Oilers and Flames, being a shining beacon of inspiration to get everyone to quit their erroneous ways and become Canucks Fans. The progress is decidedly slow.

Other than that, I'm a third year Education Student at the University of Lethbridge, majoring in Social Studies. Because let's face it, politics and history are pretty awesome.

The Toughest Decision of My Life

So at the beginning of the year, Paul told us not to be afraid to get personal on this blog. Well, I’m not one to do that, but I think the time has come for me to get personal. Writing out all my thoughts and feelings about this issue might be cathartic. So here we go.

Today, my boyfriend Joel, and his 2 roommates, Jake and Ryan (who was NOT skipping work), and I went to go on adventures in downtown Calgary. After wandering around aimfully, seeing a gentleman wearing denim shorts and about 7 belts (affectionately named “Denim Dan”), and finding some sort of military carnival, prompting Joel serenade to us all with “In The Navy,” we found ourselves at TD Square. (Sidenote: this is after navigating the “frickin maze” that the +15 ends up at in the Telus Building. Not cool Telus, not cool.)

After wandering around for a while, we started to become aware of an encouraging trend: there were people everywhere - and many of them were carrying Arby’s bags.

“ARBYS!” you say! “I love Arby’s!” Yes, yes, so do we. So this led to us going an hour long trek to find Arbys, include a heated map dispute over if Arby’s was on the 3rd or 4th floor, and a betrayal over Orange Julius. When hope seemed lost, lo and behold, we would see another Arby’s bag, and find the courage to keep on going.

After 40 days and 40 nights….ok, after 2 hours of wandering around downtown Calgary, we found an oasis of food. It was the greatest food court ever. Imagine the greatest food court you have ever seen, and then imagine it on crack (to which Ryan says: “Can you put that on there? Does the Internet let that happen? What about the censors?”)

There was (that I remember..and I don’t remember many of them): Taco Bell, KFC, Cajun Grill, Quiznos, Subway, Opa!, and after a long search, Arby’s. We came up the escalator, and saw the glory that beheld us, Joel said what all of us were thinking: “This is the toughest decision of my life.”

When all was said and done, Ryan and I chose Arby’s, Jake went to Quiznos, and Joel slummed it and went to Taco Bell (which caused the rest of us to mock him.) And while it was the toughest decision ever, it was the most glorious day of our lives.
